Description

Milestone Helps Veteran with Home Repair

On a sunny spring day in May, a dozen Milestone Systems, Inc. employees from the Minneapolis office volunteered their time and muscle to help Rebuilding Together with its 3-month project of renovating the home of a US Marine veteran who is facing health & accessibility issues.

The Milestone team worked inside the house and outside, accomplishing various tasks: installed aluminum siding on the back of the house; sanded & prepped spackled walls and ceilings; repaired holes in the kitchen floor & wall; removed overgrowth vegetation from the side yards; moved out old appliances; prepped the breakfast nook for fresh paint; and patched the stucco on the outside of the home.

"Milestone works on network architecture for large enterprise banks, health systems, retailers, and legal firms all over the country. We are also a Section 8 (veteran-owned) business, and have many employees who have served in the military. Working on improving the structure of a veteran's home seemed like a perfect fit for Milestone," said Mark Greer, COO.

The firm donated the time of 12 employees on May 14, 2010.

The mission of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners. This service ensures that these homeowners – particularly older adults, individuals living with disabilities, and families with children – live independently in homes that are safe, warm and dry.

An affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together organization, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities has been preserving and revitalizing homes and communities in the metropolitan area since 1997.
